Reading is Fun: Policy

Main aims:

  • To encourage primary school pupils to become committed readers

  • To help pupils explore different kinds of books for enjoyment

  • To include reading promotion ideas for teachers
     

Policy:

  • Titles included will be confined to publications which are readily available

  • New additions will be selected from books published in hardback within the last five years, or first published in paperback within the last 18 months

  • All interested librarians, teachers and pupils may suggest titles for inclusion on the web site       

  • Suggestions will be considered by an editorial group of librarians

  • In the event of disagreement the final decision will rest with the Principal Schools Librarian      

  • The web site will be maintained by Isabel Harris, and updated continuously       

  • “Scottish” is defined as: by a Scottish born writer, having a Scottish theme, or reflecting Scottish life and culture
     

Process:

  • Suggestions for inclusion should be sent to the Principal Schools Librarian and may be sent at anytime

  • Where possible the person making the suggestion should write a short blurb for the book they are suggesting, in language appropriate to the age range for which the book is intended (see guidelines)       

  • Final selection, decision on books to be removed etc will be the task of the editorial group
